UNL Extension Creating Balance with Food & Fitness Class

UNL Extension's Food, Nutrition, and Health team is currently offering a "Creating Balance with Food and Fitness" health and wellness program. Participants are partipcating in a seven-week series of interactive sessions that focus on helping them eat healtier and incorporating physical activity into their lives. Here's a video clip of a 10-minute exercise video from one of the course instructors that was included ias part of a class.

The class will be offered again next year.

FREE App: Grow It Know It

Where do hot dogs come from? Milk? Hamburgers? Eggs? Most youngsters likely will say the grocery store. “We Grow It, Do You Know It” is a lively free app that gives kids their first lessons in how agriculture produces the things they love to eat. From the University of Nebraska’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Learn how to download the Grow It - Know It app for your iPod, iPhone, or iPad PLUS enter a drawing for a free iPod (you can enter the drawing even if you don't download the app)!

Free Snack Planet App from University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension'Snack Planet' app promotes healthy snacking, exercise

UNL Extension and Educational Media have teamed up to create "Snack Planet," a new, free iPad app available online through the Apple Store.

Snack Planet is a game developed to promote the benefits of healthy snacking and exercise. Help Optimis the robot move quickly thorough a maze, grab healthy foods and reach the exit before the time runs out. New application available for Apple devices helps protect consumers from bad leftovers

4 Day Throw Away red graphic

The "4-Day Throw Away" application for Apple iPhone and iPod touch, available now from the App Store, is an extension of the 4-Day Throw Away campaign, which educates consumers about the dangers of foodborne illnesses and the four-day guideline for eating, freezing or throwing away leftovers. ChooseMyPlate Update


The USDA unveiled ChooseMyPlate as the new food guideline to replace MyPyramid. The USDA's updated website states that, "MyPlate illustrates the five food groups using a familiar mealtime visual, a place setting. Here's a short (1 minute) overview, "Choose MyPlate Update," of the new food guideline.
